Better safe than sorry. The design is horrendous and dangerous. Unless the can for the recessed light is fixed to the framing of your house or at the very least to your ceiling the pendant light will pull the can out of the ceiling eventually. Attach the crossbar to the can light.

2 unscrew the recessed light bulb from the can light and then remove the trim kit typically this round trim piece just snaps in and out. Or less where recessed lighting is currently used in your home. Black to black and white to white. The conversion kit comes with metal screws.

Remove existing recessed fixture by twisting out light bulb turning and removing casing and releasing clips that hold recessed light shell to socket. Install recessed fixture converter follow kit instructions to install converter. Transform your existing recessed lighting into a pendant or light fixture. Connect and install the pendant or a flush mount light according to the instructions that come with it.

Once the crossbar is attached you can install the crossbar that comes with a pendant like you normally would. Connect the green wire to the bare copper ground wire. Hang any pendant or other light fixture of 50 lbs.
